Most Popular Baby Names- As Per US Records

Just as conception, pregnancy and child birth all look complicated for women, so is the case related to naming of babies. If you are one among those who likes to follow trend, then you would definitely benefit from searching ‘the most popular name of the year or decade’.

In this article, I will give out the list of the most popular names in US as per the US Social Security Administration records. Every year, somewhere near the Mother’s day, the US SSA publishes the most popular names of the previous year, registered especially for babies.

The SSA list has benefited a lot of parents before also in two major ways – many named their babies as per the popularity chart and many avoided naming their babies as per the popularity chart. That is, some parents would not like to give their baby a name which might be shared by many others during the same period.

In the year 2008, the female name ‘Emma’ got the first rank in terms of popularity. Whereas for the past few years (12 years or so) the female name ‘Emily’ was considered the most popular baby girl name. In 2008 Emily was dragged to the third place by Emma and Isabella.

The top ten was rounded off by other female names in the following order – Madison, Ava, Olivia, Sophia, Abigail, Elizabeth and Chloe. The same year, in the boy’s category Jacob was the most popular baby name for boys. Jacob was followed by the following – Michael, Ethan, Joshua, Daniel, Alexander, Anthony, William, Christopher and Mathew.

In the year 2009 the female name Emily was pushed a lot lower in the popularity rank. Last year Isabella topped the list of the most popular baby name for girls. This was followed by Emma, Olivia, Sophia, Ava, Emily, Madison, Abigail, Chloe and Mia. And for baby boys, the most popular name in 2009 was Jacob. Jacob was followed by other popular names such as – Ethan, Michael, Alexander, William, Joshua, Daniel, Jayden, Noah and Anthony.

Celebrities can never be left behind in terms of fashion and baby names. Last year, some celebrity names, especially related to those celebrities whose fame increased rapidly in the past few years, jumped the ranking list by many points. Examples include names such as Khloe, Miley, Brody etc.
